How we calculate this

Two things quietly cost you sales: items you carry but run out of, and things customers ask for that you don't stock at all. Out-of-stocks lose retailers about 3–4% of sales (Gruen & Corsten) — of a missed item, more than a third of shoppers buy it elsewhere or walk out empty-handed. Separately, tailoring your range to local demand lifts sales about 2–4% at data-rich retailers (McKinsey, 2019). We count about 3% from out-of-stocks + 1.5% from the demand you don't carry ≈ 4.5% of sales, in a 3%–8% range depending on how decisively you act.
